"From 1853 to 1856 Hester was a teacher at the McKendree Church School of Huntingdon Co., Pa. In 1857 she was the teachers assistant, and in 1858 was the manager and teachers assistant.[8]"

Some time after Jacob's death in 1894, Hester moved to Shelby, Iowa to live with Son Franklin Bryce Linn (see census records below).

Shelby Woman Died at Age of 91

Mrs. Jacob Linn, Resident on One Farm for 53 Years, Died Dec. 13.

Mrs. Jacob B. Linn died at her farm home near Shelby Tuesday, Dec. 13, aged 91 years, 11 months and 28 days. Funeral services were held Friday from the Methodist church at 2:30 o'clock, conducted by the pastor, Rev. Ivan Mills.

Mrs. Linn was born Dec. 15, 1835, in Huntingdon county, Pa. She was married to Jacob B. Linn Oct. 13, 1864, and for ten years they lived on a little mountain home in Pennsylvania. They moved to the prairies of Iowa, and bought an 80 acre tract of raw land, two and a half miles northwest of Shelby. Mrs. Linn has lived continuously on this farm for 53 years, excepting short periods of time spent visiting her family and friends in their own homes. Her husband died Dec. 26, 1893, and for 34 years Mrs. Linn has lived a widow.

Seven sons and one daughter were born to this union. One son died in infancy. A daughter, Mrs. Annie Laura Best, died at the age of 35 years and Rev Walter M. Linn also died at the age of 35 years.

Mrs. Linn joined the M. E. church in 1854. For 73 years she has in her quiet Christian way supported the church of her choice.

Mrs. Ben Osborne and Dwight Linn of Pierson, Harry Linn of Des Moines, Mrs. Chas. Paulk of Harlan, Ambrose, Kenny and Roy Linn of Rockham, S. D., attended the funeral from out of town.
